Celebrating its third year as a NASCAR Green partner, Mobil 1 is bringing its Advanced Fuel Economy and Delvac 1 LE 5W-30 brands of motor oils to the forefront for the Race To Green week.
The Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy helps increase gasoline-powered engine efficiency, and improves fuel economy by up to two percent. The Mobil Delvac 1 LE 5W-20 enhances fuel economy potential in heavy-duty diesel engines.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup and XFINITY Series teams that use Mobil 1 in their engines will run a special Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy contingency sticker on their cars for the weekend’s race at Richmond International Raceway.
“Strategic partnerships that help protect our environment shape the NASCAR Green platform and Mobil 1 is a key contributor to our overall effort to be more sustainable,” said Dr. Mike Lynch, vice president green innovation and STEM platforms, NASCAR. “Mobil 1 continues to utilize our Race to Green initiative to validate its technology and educate our fans about the benefits of improved engine efficiency and fuel economy.”
In addition, the No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet driven by Tony Stewart, will feature Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy branding on the car.
The three-time Sprint Cup Series champion is proud to work with an organization that takes what is learned on the racetrack and implements it directly into the products available to consumers, all while going green in the process.
“The cool thing is what they learn on the racetrack then ends up going into the consumer market. The last couple of years the Green initiative has been with the NASCAR haulers, then the (TV) production haulers, this year it’s the fans,” said Stewart. “It’s neat to be in a partnership with somebody that uses the race teams and uses what we do on the racetrack. That eventually correlates to what people buy at service centers and off the shelves at auto parts stores. It’s neat to see how it transfers down.”
To help spread the message of these oil brands and their fuel-saving qualities, Stewart helped fans travelling from the Charlotte, North Carolina area to this weekend’s race at RIR change the oil in their passenger vehicles.
Stewart was quick to point out that Mobil 1’s fuel-saving oils played a crucial role in his 2011 Sprint Cup Series championship, when he beat Carl Edwards for the win at Homestead-Miami Speedway with pit strategy and track position.
“When we won the championship in 2011, if you remember what really won us the race was the track position. Carl Edwards had to pit two times toward the end and we stretched the fuel mileage out and pitted one more time,” said Stewart. “That got us track position, and it seemed like whichever one of us came out ahead had the advantage. The amount of time that we saved due to the oil was larger than the margin of victory. It’s easy to point the finger at Mobil 1 and really point out that’s what won us the championship.”
Prior to this year’s event, Mobil 1 worked with NASCAR to convert the sport’s fleet-and-service vehicles to Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy and Mobil Delvac 1 LE 5W-30 brands. Last year, Mobil 1 expanded on those efforts by offering lubricant and fuel-efficiency technology capabilities to the vehicles and generators that make up the NASCAR TV broadcast compound, which consists of 36 generators and over 50 vehicles.
“As the Official Lubricant Technology Partner of NASCAR, it’s important that we continue evolving our support of NASCAR’s sustainability initiatives and further the impact we’re making each year,” said Kai Decker, global motorsports manager at Mobil 1. “We’ve worked directly with NASCAR to optimize the efficiency of vehicles used to bring the races to life. This year, we’re going directly to fans – making their drive to the track just as sustainably responsible as the fleet and service vehicles operating on the track.”
